Even though this concept vehicle was unveiled way back in 2005, there’s little chance we’ll see it hitting the roads or even off roads anytime soon. And that’s such a pity. But you can take solace in the fact that many of the features unearthed in the development of this beast have and will make their way into more conventional Jeep offerings.
With twin 5.7-litre Hemi V8 engines and a super-stiff carbon-fibre body, the Jeep Hurricane concept truck is a beast of a machine. A central transfer case called the T-Box receives the opposing engines’ driveshafts and apportions a combined 700 horsepower and 750 pound-feet of torque to all four independently sprung wheels. Each wheel can deflect up to 45 degrees off-centre, enabling the Hurricane to move diagonally like a crab. When coupled with the gearbox’s ability to turn the wheels in opposite directions, the Hurricane can spin in place like, well, a hurricane.
