Nintendo releases the latest edition of their DS console family this week and it could be a top player in the handheld market.

On 2nd April, the latest in the Nintendo DS console range will be available in New Zealand. It’s promised that the DSi will take over as the top player in the handheld market.

The latest edition to Nintendo’s DS range looks similar to the previous DS Lite except it’s a bit slimmer and Nintendo has bumped up the screen size by an extra 17 percent. The console has a camera on top of the machine and another smaller one, which is pointed in towards the user; both can be used to take photos.

Beyond the two cameras, the new console is loaded with extensive image manipulation software. Users can alter stored images by adding extra lens effects to transform regular photos into artistic creations, which could make for interesting self portraits. The DSi sound feature allows for similar manipulation of sound. The console opens up the world of the web, allowing players to browse the net. A real bonus is the extra SD card slot, which allows far greater storage capacity of downloads and even music.
RRP $375
