The most promising 2012 Olympians are the men and women from around the world who are favorites at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England.
These athletes have been training for years for this chance to soar on the world's stage in their respective athletes. From the individual athletes expected to win big to the athletes looking to upset them, these are the most promising athletes at the 2012 Olympics.
In many popular sports, the athletes most favored to win big are those stars coming into the games ranked number one in the world already. In football, or soccer as it's known in the states, the men's competition is expected to be dominated by Spain who won the UEFA European Football Championship just weeks before the 2012 games. Similarly, on the women's side the US Women's National Soccer Team enters the games ranked at the top of the field and look to take their fourth gold medal in five Summer Olympics.
Other athletes will be battling not just their own teammates in the same Olympic events but close friends. Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake, sprinters from Jamaica, and Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps, swimmers from the United States, are two pairs of good friends in real life who will be battling for the gold in London.
Which country will dominate in the games, be it the talented American Olympians, the host team of Great Britain or another squad, that's unknown but odds are that many of these talented men and women will bring home some gold from England.
A total of 302 medals are up for grabs these Olympics.
