G20 Sum Up
The G20 Summit in London saw the leaders from G20 countries come together in an effort to counter the current economic recession. British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, commented that the summit marked a day that the world came together to form a plan for recovery. At the summit, the leaders decided on a $1.1 trillion package to deal with problems the world is currently facing. It is forecast that the trillion-dollar package will raise the world's overall output by four percent by the end of next year.
The additional $1.1 trillion dollar package includes:
An additional $500 billion for the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
•A trade finance package worth $250 billion over two years to support global trade flows.
•At least $100 billion of additional lending by the Multilateral Development Banks.
Key undertakings agreed upon at the summit:
* Restore confidence, growth and jobs.
* Repair the financial system to restore lending.
* Strengthen financial regulation to rebuild trust.
* Fund and reform our international financial institutions to overcome this crisis and prevent future ones.
* Promote global trade and investment, and reject protectionism to underpin prosperity.
* Build an inclusive, green and sustainable recovery.
