Finding The Genesis Atom
It seems that physics has now entered the 21st Century with the possibility that sciences newest particle has finally been discovered.
The elusive subatomic matter -the Higgs Boson- was first formulated by Peter Higgs an English theorist who recently admitted that he was 'incompetent' at science in the lab.
Regardless of his self effacing quip, Higgs went on to apply his mathematical computations to create the theoretical realm of the universe.
In 1964 his theory of an elusive particle which explains how the Big Bang created an ordered universe was ignored by many, until now. The discovery of the 'Higgslike' particle is acclaimed by the scientific community as one of the "biggest observations of any new phenomena in the last 30 to 40 years". This is like discovering the missing bit of an equation to the creation of the cosmos and it's been missing for the last 40 years.
Finding it will now help to explain why particles have mass and further the existence of diversity and life in the universe.
After observing this significant episode from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), John Womersley, chief executive of the UK's Science & Technology Facilities Council confirmed "that a particle has been discovered that is consistent with the Higgs boson theory".
A present and emotional Peter Higgs is now able to appreciate something he's felt for a long time. That this discovery opens up a new door to understanding which hasn't been part of the realm of thinking.
